Although what you want from a pet will vary, if you ask me, the best pets in Grow A Garden 2 are currently the Unicorn and the Ice Serpent. The Unicorn will double your likelihood of spawning Rainbow crops, which offer 30x the value, and the Ice Serpent is easily the strongest defensive pet, which will help stop thieves from robbing you.
With Grow A Garden 2 officially here, it's time to start optimising your ultimate garden. Part of that includes wrangling in an entourage of animal friends to do your bidding for you, wielding their abilities to speed up harvesting crops, protecting your farm from attacking forces and boosting plant growth.
But you can only have up to five of these little wonders in your squad at any given time, so which are the best pets? Below, we've assembled a full tier list of every pet in Grow A Garden 2, ranking them based on how useful their abilities are.

| A Tier | Deer, Golden Dragonfly, Raccoon, Robin |
| B Tier | Bee, Bunny |
| C Tier | Monkey |
| D Tier | Frog, Owl |
Tier list breakdown
Below, we'll go through each tier and discuss why we've placed each pet where we have, as well as list their specific abilities. If you're looking for our thoughts on a specific pet, click their name on the tier list above to skip down to their entry.
S-Tier
Unicorn
| Ability | Double chance of plants/crops getting the Rainbow mutation. |
|---|---|
| How to get | Purchased for 12 Million Sheckles after spawning on the map or a 0.3% chance it hatches from a Common Egg. |
If I had to throw out an overall top dog among the Grow A Garden 2 pets list, Unicorn would be my personal GOAT. Its ability is particularly powerful, doubling the chances of crops in your garden getting the Rainbow Mutation. The multiplier ups a crop's value by 30%, so having double the fruit affected by this Mutation will absolutely bankroll you. As of right now, the Unicorn is truly the best business partner you could have.
Ice Serpent
| Ability | Freezes garden intruders. |
|---|---|
| How to get | Obtained as a Guild reward. |
Ice Serpent is without question the hardest pet to get in the game, but also the best if you want a defensive creature to thwart thieves. It can freeze players, making sure none of your best fruits and veg get nicked, so it's well worth bolstering your Guild ranks in an effort to get him.
A-Tier
Deer
| Ability | Helps plants grow 10% faster. |
|---|---|
| How to get | Purchased for 50,000 Sheckles after spawning on the map or a 20% chance it hatches from a Common Egg. |
Not all heroes make it into the songs of legend, and the Deer is pure proof. This little dude may be a standard spawn, but used correctly, you can turn him into the Wolf of Wall Street, raking you in fat stacks with little to no effort. You see, the Deer's ability can stack if you have multiple of him, which means, if you have a squad of three, four or even five Deers, you can boost the growth of every plant in your garden by up to 50%. In other words, you'll have way more yield, and that equals more cash. He's better than almost all the rarer pets you'll come across from one simple buff.
Golden Dragonfly
| Ability | Doubles the chance of plants/fruit getting the Gold mutation. |
|---|---|
| How to get | Purchased for 9 million Sheckles after spawning on the map. |
Golden Dragonfly is basically the lower tier version of the Unicorn. Instead of doubling your chances to spawn Rainbow crops, he doubles your chances to spawn Golden crops. But hey, that's still incredibly useful and will allow you to generate huge amounts of cash. He's much cheaper too, rising him very high up the ranks.
Raccoon
| Ability | Steals fruit from empty gardens at night. Increases steal limit by +25. |
|---|---|
| How to get | Purchased for 15 million Sheckles after spawning on the map or a 0.2% chance it hatches from a Common Egg. |
In theory, the Raccoon could be S-tier. He wanders off on his own, yoinks fruit from neighbouring gardens, and free fruit equals cash. But stealing just isn't really the meta of Grow A Garden 2 yet. At night, most players wait in their garden, which bars you from stealing crops from them. As such, while the Raccoon's abilities are brilliant, we'll have to see how useful they are in coming updates. Right now, he's a great pick without much utility.
Robin
| Ability | Eats ripe fruit in your garden. Sometimes drops seeds from consumed fruit (the rarer the fruit, the lower the drop rate). |
|---|---|
| How to get | Purchased for 75,000 Sheckles after spawning on the map or a 4.5% chance it hatches from a Common Egg. |
The Robin is a double-edged sword, with high potential to be a top-tier pet despite a lot of drawbacks. It eats ripe fruit and, occasionally, it will poop out a seed of said fruit that you can plant for a new crop. Thinking about the potential of that, you'll realise he can only go as low as A-tier, especially when you consider all the rare plants or even limited plants that you could make the Robin generate seeds for. However, the catch is that he'll eat sellable produce, and very rarely actually gives you any seeds. Right now, he's a useless pet until suddenly he becomes the absolute crowning jewel of your squad, and there's no in-between.
B Tier
Bee
| Ability | Attacks garden intruders, stinging them to invert their controls and add a red overlay on screen. |
|---|---|
| How to get | Purchased for 1 million Sheckles after spawning on the map or a 4.5% chance it hatches from a Common Egg. |
The Bee is definitely a decent defensive pet and acts as a useful deterrent against people coming into your garden. The main issue is that it's not particularly fast, and while inverting a player's controls is actually a very useful debuff, it has to actually reach a player to inflict it. When you add the fact it costs 1 million Sheckles to buy, it's pretty middle of the road compared to the other available pets right now.
Bunny
| Ability | Boosts walk speed by +5. |
|---|---|
| How to get | Purchased for 20,000 Sheckles after spawning on the map or a 30% chance it hatches from a Common Egg. |
The Bunny is a pet that can seem pretty useless until you realise how to stack pet abilities. By having multiple Bunnies, you can increase your speed by up to +25, making you a speed demon. Why do you want that? Well, during the Gold and Rainbow mutation events, having speed on your side is absolutely a boon, letting you beat players out to get to the free Rainbow and Gold seeds that spawn. It'll also let you catch up to thieves faster so you can thwomp them with your shovel. Obviously, speed won't help that much in general gardening life, but in some scenarios, the Bunny squadron really helps out.
C Tier
Monkey
| Ability | Picks ripe fruit and gives it to you. |
|---|---|
| How to get | Purchased for 3 million Sheckles after spawning on the map. |
The Monkey is, in theory, a useful pet. It roams around your garden, occasionally picking ripe fruit and bringing it to you. Considering you'll eventually get trees that can be hard to climb to reach fruit, that's a useful skill. But on the other hand, picking up a fruit and bringing it to you doesn't really save that much time. I appreciate the effort, Monkey, but I'm going to have to climb the same tree to pick the five other fruits you couldn't be bothered to harvest. For the hefty price too, you'd probably be better just picking it yourself.
D Tier
Frog
| Ability | Boosts jump height by +5. |
|---|---|
| How to get | Purchased for 10,000 Sheckles after spawning on the map or a 30% chance it hatches from a Common Egg. |
Simply put, jump height really isn't that useful in Grow A Garden 2. It can be when trying to grab fruit from hard-to-reach trees, but you can build ladders to get around that issue. As it stands, that makes the frog a bit of a useless pet.
Owl
| Ability | Extends night view distance by 12%. Hoots when a rare pet spawns. |
|---|---|
| How to get | Purchased for 25,000 Sheckles after spawning on the map. |
Night view distance is relatively good in the first place and, whenever a rare pet spawns, you usually get a big, bold notification in the centre of the screen. In other words, the Owl doesn't really offer anything to you except for looking pretty cute. Cute doesn't grow my wealth though, does it, Mr Owl?
