Looking for Bard's guitar in The Forge? While exploring the starting area of Stonewake's Cross, you'll see a sobbing bard sitting beside a campfire. Turns out this down-on-his-luck fella lost his guitar in the caves. The only issue is that finding it is a bit of a nightmare. Namely, because it's trapped in a secret cave with a hidden entrance.
As much as I'd like to teach our friend about the beauty of persistence and tell him to get back out there and find his guitar, that wouldn't get us any tasty lumps of EXP now, would it? It also wouldn't lead us to the location of the Arcane Pickaxe, which you can only buy by completing this quest. How to get the Lost Guitar side quest
First things first, we actually have to meet Bard and ask him about why he's so mopey. To find him, look for the campfire next to the potions shop. It's incredibly close to where you spawn. Just leave the Forge and look to your right, and you should spot its glowing embers.
You'll find Bard sitting against a rock beside this campfire. Speak to him, and he'll give you the quest to find his missing guitar. With that done, let's go find it.
How to find Bard's guitar
Now that we have the quest, we'll need to delve into Stonewake's Cross' cave. Make your way to the entrance, head inside and move down the slope until you reach the hub area where Nord and Umut The Brave are standing. Take a left here and immediately stop.
The Forge loves to partake in a little game I like to call "Dark Souls shenanigans," and by that, I mean that it loves to hide paths behind walls and floors that look completely solid. In this case, you should see some leaves jutting out of the walls of this passage. They're right next to the wooden support beam on the wall just to your left as you step off the slope into the cave.
If you step onto these leaves, you'll drop right through them and into a small cavern. There's a skeleton sitting against the wall here, and to his right, you'll find the guitar perched on a ledge. Pick it up, and just like that, we've secured our missing guitar.
Use the ladder to climb out of the secret cavern, and then make your way back to the surface and over to Bard's campfire.
Lost Guitar rewards
Once you've handed Bard his guitar, he'll reward you with an unknown key. You can take this key to the Inner Cave and finally unlock the mysterious gate you've likely wandered past a million times by now.
On the other side is an incredibly powerful pickaxe called the Arcane Pickaxe. But that bad boy isn't free. It'll set you back an eye-watering $125,000, so you'll need to start cramming your piggy bank with hefty chunks of spare change if you want to wield its might.
With Bard's guitar returned, it's time to get back to mining and forging. After all, you're gonna need to drum up some funds to finally lift that Arcane Pickaxe over your shoulder and unleash its power on any rock that stands in your way.
